The Brisbane Lions have just wrapped up a historic season, but they’ve still got a lot of work to do before they can fully take on the NRL champions.
While the Lions won’t be in the finals until the end of 2021, they’ll be a tough group to beat in a number of different ways.
They’re still missing key players from their premiership team, such as former Lions lock David Gower, who’s not returning to the squad for this season.
Also missing are a number from their 2014 squad, including prop Luke Burgess, who was part of the side that won the grand final and was voted the team’s player of the year.
However, it’s also been a great season for the Lions, who have a record of 23 wins and eight losses and are unbeaten at home for the first time in their history.
The Lions have the fourth-best win percentage in the competition behind the Rabbitohs (57 per cent), Raiders (57.9 per cent) and Warriors (59.5 per cent).
They’ve won the league title four times, with a first-round bye the only blemish on their record.
They’re also set to face the Broncos this Saturday in the second leg of the Grand Final rematch, which is expected to be a highly competitive contest.
The match is set to kick off at 8:30pm AEDT (6:30am AEST) with the final time set at 12:00pm.
The Brisbane Lions are currently sitting on 17 wins, six losses and three tries.
They have lost just two of their last seven games, and the last time they lost to the Cowboys in round six they were beaten 21-16 in Round 9.
